April Happenings

We've been very busy in April but I'm determined to write at least one post this month! So here's what's been happening...

First up, we celebrated Easter. We stayed home this year, but the kids still had a great time waking up and hunting for eggs. Actually, only Isabel looked for eggs; Zak took advantage of her search by raiding her Easter basket and running off with her fully wrapped candy in his mouth. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, so Isabel did even more egg hunting outdoors. As for the Easter dinner, well, it wasn't my best Easter effort but at least I managed to cook something.

Isabel has started up swim lessons again after a long lapse. The first few classes she sobbed during the portion where they have the kids jump off the well. But sometime between then and now, a lightswitch went off and now she jumps off the wall and is often first down the water slide (previously another source of terror). She's so proud of herself when she achieves these things, it's really cute to see and I'm proud that she stuck with it.

We took our first family trip in a while: El Paso! My two nieces (well, technically they are my cousins but with the age difference it's easier to think of myself as their aunt) were getting baptized. There is no direct flight between Columbus and El Paso; Isabel did great but Zak was... a "challenge". There were many snacks, drinks, and games of pattycake. Once there, we had a whirlwind visit but it was nice to see that side of my family and have everyone meet the kids. The baptism was lovely (though I distinctly heard someone say "uh oh" into the microphone... baptism misfire???" Isabel even got in a mini-swim lesson at the hotel pool. No trips to Juarez (aka Murder Capital of the World!) on this visit but one of these days I'd like to take the kids to Mexico.

And finally, I had a short but sweet girls' getaway to Cincinnati (and bonus: I learned how to spell Cincinnati). Some Columbus friends and I left our kids with their dads and drove down for 24 hours of eating, drinking, dancing, and shopping. I know I for one came back with a much more relaxed attitude, so I think it was a win for everyone!
