Kyle and I recently took a trip to Lake Tahoe to attend a destination wedding for some old pals of mine from college. While the kids enjoyed time with their grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins, Kyle and I used the wedding as an excuse for some R&R.
Since Kyle was flying in from a Hong Kong business trip, he arrived a day before me and got in a few hours of skiing. By the time I flew in, it had snowed and he was told he couldn't drive his rental car over the mountain pass because he didn't have chains on the tires. When I left the Reno airport terminal, I hailed a cab and asked if he would drive to Incline Village. He said yes so I hopped in. He belatedly decided to call his dispatcher to find out the road conditions. After a long conversation in a foreign language he got off his cell phone and informed me, "Incline Village - very, very dangerous!" It was white-knuckle ride: road signs warning of avalanche zones, snow blowing off the mountain and making it impossible to see, and the driver's hand on his gearshift ready to downshift if he started sliding.
But I made it there safe and sound! The hotel was nice, and Kyle and I enjoyed the buffet and sports betting in the casino (both of us lost!). Then the wedding. It's so enjoyable to see a really great couple get hitched. And the reception was so much fun, the wedding guests danced the whole time until the dj stopped playing music. The next day we spent more time with the newlyweds, managing to score brunch and dinner invites,

In between mooching off the happy couple, we did a first for me (although Kyle's an old pro): snowmobiling!I can't believe they let you drive those things without a license. Kyle and I shared a snowmobile and I started driving because I figured they'd go slower in the beginning. I am the first to admit I was a bit of a chicken; I felt like I was going really fast but the other sleds were way ahead of me. After a while I turned control over to Kyle. I'm not sure if he didn't hear my screams to slow down or if he was getting revenge for my ill-advised bet on Vanderbilt basketball, but either way there were a few moments I was terrified of flying off. It was all worth it though for the view at the top of the mountain.
